Sides from different confederations take a break from their league commitments to play in the FIFA Club World Cup, with Real Madrid again representing UEFA as its most recent Champions League winner.
The tournament is viewed as a nuisance in the calendar in some quarters, but its status continues to grow with the title of ‘best team in the world’ at stake.
Real are on the hunt for another piece of silverware under Carlo Ancelotti, having beaten Al Ahly to reach the final. There they’ll face Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
Here is a look at when the tournament final takes place and how you can tune in.
The Club World Cup is being held in Morocco this season. It was originally meant to be played in 2022 as the participants earned their place off the back of the 2021/22 campaign.
Instead though, it began on February 1 and will run until February 11 when the final takes place. It will kick off at 19:00 GMT at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. The game will see Al-Hilal take on Real Madrid.
This season, the tournament has been contested by seven different teams from different parts of the world. The first round saw just one game between Al Ahly (Egypt) and Auckland City (New Zealand). That ended 3-0 to the team from Africa and they advanced to the second round where three more teams joined the competition.
Al Ahly won again as they beat the USA’s Seattle Sounders 1-0, while Morocco’s Wydad AC lost on penalties against Al-Hilal.
At the semi-final stage, two new teams arrived. Al-Hilal were drawn to face Flamengo and Al Ahly faced Real Madrid. Al-Hilal won their game 3-2 and Real Madrid comfortably beat Al Ahly 4-1.
That means the third place play-off will be between Al Ahly and Flamengo at 15:30 GMT on February 11, followed by Real Madrid vs Al-Hilal at 19:00 GMT on the same day.
