Sporting Kansas City will kick off the team’s highly anticipated 2023 season against the Portland Timbers at 9:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 25 and, to celebrate the start of the new MLS campaign, the club will host aSeason Kickoff Watch Partyat Chicken N Pickle (5901 W. 135th St.) in Overland Park, Kan.
The special event will be free and open to the public for attendees of all ages with pickleball courts available to use at no cost and photo opportunities provided with the 2013 MLS Cup trophy as the club commemorates the 10th anniversary of the historic season. Doors will open at 8 p.m. CT with discounted food and beverage offers, including $4 Bud Light drafts and $20 Budweiser buckets, and fans planning to attend are required toreserve a free ticket via SeatGeekin advance.
Sporting Kansas City Season Ticket Members will have early access to the event starting at 6 p.m. and can reserve a free ticket for advance admission separately via SeatGeek by contacting their Membership Services Executive. Their enhanced experience will include complimentary food and drink, as well as a meet-and-greet with 2013 MLS Cup champion Matt Besler and the first opportunity to sign the club’s 2023 Paint the Wall panel – a tradition which showcases the signatures of Season Ticket Members each year via a prominent display at Children’s Mercy Park.
Chicken N Pickle, an official pub partner of Sporting Kansas City, opened its Overland Park location in 2021 and was named the 2022 Small Business of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. The destination features an indoor/outdoor entertainment complex with leisure games – including cornhole, Battleship, Jenga, bocce and ping pong – for guests, as well as a full-service restaurant and sports bar.
Led by Manager Peter Vermes and captain Johnny Russell, Sporting will begin the team’s 28th season on the road against the Portland Timbers at Providence Park with the earliest regular season match in club history on Feb. 25. The season opener will air live onMLS Season Pass, a new subscription service from Apple and MLS that will stream every match of the regular season, Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and Leagues Cup with no blackouts.
