Dietmar Hamann has fresh dig at ‘overrated’ star as Jurgen Klopp is told to axe four players

Hamann slams Liverpool star

Dietmar Hamann has once again criticised Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara and he has told Jurgen Klopp that he must offload at least four players.

Liverpool have been a shambles this season as they have found themselves floundering around the mid-table places in the Premier League.

They came close to winning the quadruple last season but they ultimately fell short in the Premier League and Champions League.

This term though, they are a shadow of their best selves. Last weekend, they were comfortably beaten 3-0 at Molineux by Julen Lopetegui’s Wolves.

Speaking after this defeat, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admitted that he did not have the answers for his side’s slump as he apologised to the club’s supporters.

It is widely accepted that Liverpool’s main issue is in the middle of the pitch as most of their current centre-midfielders are either ageing or out of form.

Liverpool are in the market for two midfielders ahead of the summer, with Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes among their targets.

“He’s a player who doesn’t win you balls, he’s a player who doesn’t assist goals and he’s a player who doesn’t score goals.

“So my criticism was always – what does he actually do? I know he’s brilliant on the eye and he’s easy to watch, but last season he had three or four assists and scored one goal in the Premier League. He’s not a defensive midfielder, he doesn’t know how to tackle and he doesn’t win you the ball.

“At the moment, in Harvey Elliott, you’ve got a player who’s talented and you’ve got to give him the chance to be able to develop. Fabio Carvalho hardly gets a look in.

“Fabinho has been off-colour, and he’s really been the linchpin of that team. Jordan Henderson is in and out of the team, James Milner is coming to the end of his career, and Curtis Jones hasn’t really progressed.

“So if you ask me out of all these players, who would I like to see at the club next season? I would say that I would keep the young ones, because you have to give them the…
