Casemiro likened to ‘Brock Lesner’ as pundit calls for Man Utd man to be ‘arrested’ for red card

Casemiro walks down the tunnel after being sent off

Casemiro “should be arrested” for “strangling” Will Hughes during Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, says Gabby Agbonlahor.

The Brazilian midfielder was given a straight red card following a VAR review for the incident involving Hughes.

He will miss three games as a result, but thankfully for Erik ten Hag and Casemiro’s teammates, he will be back in time to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

Casemiro will be suspended for the doubleheader against rivals Leeds United and the home match against Leicester City as a result of the punishment, perhaps giving January signing Marcel Sabitzer the chance to impress.

Manager Ten Hag admitted that he was “unhappy” with the “risk” the 30-year-old took that saw him sent off against Palace.

“Such things must not happen on the pitch. It starts with a bad foul. He could have injured the player. It is a big risk,” the Dutchman said.

“It is emotions getting up and both sides, this happens a lot with players pushing each other and also protecting each other. Casemiro was protecting the player to go into attack.

“Obviously he is sent off and we are totally unhappy with that situation. He takes a risk, we all see that. He can’t get away with that.

“But for me, it is the inconsistency. At Palace two weeks ago there was an elbow and VAR is not interfering. And in this situation, he could have sent off more players.

“Be consistent and everyone who crosses the line is sent off, not just one player. It is hard when a team-mate can get injured. Like last week, we lose Christian Eriksen to a really bad foul. The team stand for each other and you need that to get results and be successful.”

While Ten Hag thinks Casemiro took a risk, former Aston Villa and England striker Agbonlahor has gone one further, saying the Brazil international should be “arrested” and “disciplined” by United.

“Casemiro thought he was Brock Lesnar back in the UFC,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

“The way he was strangling Will Hughes, he should be arrested for that. Kids are watching that later on, on Match of the Day. Seeing Casemiro strangling an opponent.

“This isn’t ice hockey in America where they have a scrap during the game. This is football, we don’t want to see that. So Casemiro needs to be disciplined by Manchester United.”

Casemiro was recently suspended for United’s trip to Arsenal, with his side losing 3-2 on the day and clearly missing their talismanic…
