Newcastle, Spurs linked with £100m Chelsea flop; Guendouzi back to England?

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku during a match

Chelsea could use Romelu Lukaku in a part-exchange deal for a top European striker while West Ham and Aston Villa are set to battle it out for a former Arsenal midfielder.

LUKAKU’S FUTURE UP IN THE AIR
Romelu Lukaku is back on loan at Inter Milan this season after a turbulent 2021-22 campaign with Chelsea. It was supposed to be the comeback of all comebacks, but the Belgian striker struggled and complained after returning to Stamford Bridge.

And now his future is very much in doubt. A report from Calciomercato in Italy claims he could join Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Newcastle United, or Tottenham.

A move to Spurs relies on whether or not Antonio Conte will stay at the club with his contract expiring at the end of the season. The Italian managed Lukaku at Inter in 20-21, the player’s best individual season of his career, as the Nerazzurri won their first Serie A title in a decade.

Bayern are still looking for a long-term Robert Lewandowski replacement, Newcastle are probably thrown in the equation due to pure laziness; I don’t think anyone in their right mind thinks Eddie Howe actually wants him.

A Juventus switch is rather intriguing. The Old Lady are in disarray after receiving a 15-point deduction and some players might ask to leave at the end of the season with Champions League qualification unlikely. One player eager to move is Dusan Vlahovic, who Chelsea will apparently make a bid for, offering Lukaku to the Italian giants in return. Interesting…

MARSEILLE MAVERICK BACK TO THE PREM?
West Ham have joined the race to sign Aston Villa target Matteo Guendouzi, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.

Everyone remembers Guendouzi at Arsenal, especially how his stint in north London ended. His last act as a Gunner was to grab then-Brighton striker Neal Maupay by the neck. How fun.

He has been linked with a return to the Premier League this month, with Villa making him one of their top transfer targets. However, the Hammers have decided they want the Marseille maverick.

Journalist Mathieu Gregoire told L’Equipe: “Regarding Guendouzi, as we know, English clubs like Aston Villa and West Ham are ready to make big offers, but current;y, we’re not at that point.”

Guendouzi is apparently not too keen on a move to a mid-table Premier League side, and you can’t blame him really. Would a top six side take a chance on the former Arsenal midfielder?
