Former Arsenal defender Lauren thinks Martin Odegaard can “compete” for the Ballon d’Or in the future if he “continues to improve”.
The Gunners have been outstanding in the Premier League this season, losing just once and sitting five points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City, who they have a game in hand on.
Odegaard’s outstanding form, which has seen him contribute eight goals and five assists in 18 Premier League matches, is one of the big reasons Arsenal are doing so well this campaign.
The Norway international joined the Gunners from Real Madrid on loan in the second half of the 2020-21 season before the Gunners turned it into a permanent transfer the following season in a €40m deal.
And former ‘Invincibles’ defender Lauren claims that the Arsenal captain could be worth as much as £200m in the future if he keeps up his current trajectory.
Lauren told FairBettingSites: “Odegaard was not a cheap player, but he has been great and still has more to show. If he continues to improve, he can be a £100m or £200m player in the future.
“I can see Odegaard compete for the top individual awards such as the Ballon d’Or, the performances of the team are helping him to grow.
“In the future, if Arsenal win the Premier League, then perform well in the Champions League next season, I believe Odegaard will be among the best in the world.”
Another player who has been brilliant for Arsenal this campaign is Bukayo Saka with the England international contributing seven goals and seven assists for Mikel Arteta’s men.
And former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has been impressed by the way Saka “slows down in the key moments” and has likened him to Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez.
Hargreaves said on Premier League productions (via HITC): “When you look at young players when they play, especially the wingers and the flair players. They are always rushing. They want to be too quick.
“Bukayo is the opposite. He slows down in the key moments. He reminds me a bit of Riyad Mahrez in the sense that he is looking for a little moment. A little body shift.
“That I find for a kid, what is he 21? That is very rare for a kid to play with that much emotional intelligence – he plays within himself.
“I played football and it was always stressful. He is always smiling. He looks like he is having the best time out there.”
