Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit thinks Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior will find it “difficult” to settle in quickly at Arsenal.
The Premier League side moved to sign Trossard from Brighton after missing out on Mykhayko Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk with London rivals Chelsea beating them to the signing.
Trossard has been in brilliant form for Brighton so far this campaign with seven goals and two assists in 16 Premier League matches before moving to the Emirates Stadium.
But Petit has warned Trossard and fellow new signing Kiwior that they face a “difficult” introduction to life at Arsenal with the duo needing to get up to speed with Mikel Arteta’s demands.
“It’s not easy when you come into a team mid season like this, especially a team that’s working so well,” Petit told Sporting Post. “It can be difficult because it’s going to take time to settle, to get into the dressing room and to understand exactly what Arteta is asking.
“He just needs time and patience because he has qualities but he needs time to show those qualities. I had the feeling that it would be difficult for him for the first few games, it’s impossible to judge him now.”
Kiwior can play at centre-back or in defensive midfield and Petit has been impressed by what he has seen of the former Spezia defender, although he doubts he will be playing holding midfielder in the Premier League.
Petit added: “He is energetic and has good technique and he is very aggressive on the ball. It’s difficult to get past him and he always wins the ball. But I’m not sure if he can yet play as a holding midfielder in the Premier League because he’s young and still has to improve.
“He will need time, but he is young like the rest of the team which I think is important… I think it’s a great time for a young footballer to come into a team like this.”
Kiwior arrived in a €25m deal from Serie A side Spezia with reports claiming that the Poland international had been primarily signed to give Gabriel Magalhaes some competition at centre-back.
The 22-year-old’s agent Pawel Zimonczyk has praised Arsenal for how they dealt with the transfer and likened the club atmosphere to “one big family”.
“The thing that captured me was the openness of the people who work at Arsenal,” Zimonczyk told Meczyki.
“You can see that they form one big family there. I think they welcomed Kuba in from the first minute.”
