Ian Wright was left impressed with what he saw from Leandro Trossard on his Arsenal debut and he has sent a clear message to any future signings.
Trossard was brought on in the 82nd minute and he wasted no time once he got on the pitch for the first time.
He completed two successful dribbles and won three ground duels during his 10-minute cameo. It’s fair to say that he impressed Wright.
When asked if Arsenal should make any more signings the pundit told the Arseblog podcast: “I would, as long as they’re going to be in that sort of Trossard or Kiwior [mould], that calibre of player.
“Hopefully, they’re coming in with the mindset that they know they’re coming in as a squad player and, ‘this XI is doing amazing but I’ve got the capability of knowing once I get in there I can stay’. That’s how our team is going to be pushed forward.
“When you talk about getting Leandro Trossard, a 28-year-old ready to be plugged in. He came in against [Manchester] United, a big club, contributed, it’s exactly what we needed. I’m happy with what we’ve got in as the back-up plan.”
Arteta has been impressed with Trossard’s impact so far. He told reporters: “That’s what I like about him, I see a player who is willing to make things happen and he’s really composed, especially in the final third.
“And it is something that we needed to add to the team and straight away, he had a beautiful impact on the team to help us to win. Obviously, we have the two more recruits we made in this window.
“If anything else is available that can make us better, we’ll look at it. We need some more cover in midfield ideally if we can, but in this market it is pretty complicated to do that.
“As I always say, the most important thing is that we get the performances and the time on the pitch that we need with the players that we have available today that are already really good.”
Next up for Arsenal is an FA Cup clash with Manchester City on Friday. The two sides then meet once again in early February for a Premier League clash.
