Everton transfer blow as Man Utd outcast ‘prefers’ Bundesliga move amid ‘shock’ interest

Reported Everton target Anthony Elanga battles for possession

Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga likes the prospect of joining Borussia Dortmund after Everton made an offer to sign him on loan, according to reports.

Elanga established himself as an important player under interim Red Devils boss Ralf Rangnick last season.

However, the Swedish international has struggled for game time since Erik ten Hag took over at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag brought in his former Ajax player Antony for around £85m, plus Anthony Martial returned to the club and Marcus Rashford has been in the form of his life. Furthermore, Alejandro Garnacho has made a great impact this term.

This has all made it very difficult for Elanga to stake a claim this season and when he has been presented with the opportunity he has failed to impress.

The Swede’s lack of game time has opened up the opportunity for a loan move in the winter transfer window.

Everton have already made an offer to take the player out on loan for the rest of the season, according to the Daily Mail.

Frank Lampard ‘wants a winger’ as the Toffees look to avoid the drop after a close call in 2021-22.

The former Chelsea midfielder and manager wanted Elanga last summer, the report adds.

‘A number of Premier League clubs’ have expressed an interest in signing the 20-year-old this month.

Whether or not Lampard will be in the dugout by the end of the month remains to be seen. Everton are currently 19th in the Premier League with three wins from 19 games.

While things are awful on the pitch, so is everything off of it.

Everton’s board of directors were advised not to attend Saturday’s relegation six-pointer against Southampton due to a ‘real and credible’ threat to their safety.

It was reported later on Saturday that chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale was ‘put in a headlock’ after leaving the Goodison Park directors’ box and that chairman Bill Kenwright was spat at.

This does not sound like the sort of atmosphere a young player wants to be a part of, and thankfully for Elanga, there is plenty of interest coming from elsewhere.

According to talkSPORT, Borussia Dortmund have made the 20-year-old a ‘shock target’.

The report mentions Everton and Bournemouth before stating a move to the Bundesliga would be ‘a more attractive option’ for Elanga.

Should United recruit another wide player this month it would be a surprise to see the Swedish international remain at the club for the rest of the season.
