Chelsea make ‘first bid’ for next target as Jose Mourinho aims dig at their transfer activity

Chelsea target Noni Madueke celebrates scoring a goal

Chelsea aren’t stopping at the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk with the Blues making an offer for PSV Eindhoven forward Noni Madueke, according to reports.

The Blues have already made five new signings in the January transfer window with Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana and Joao Felix.

Todd Boehly has spent almost £400m in the last two transfer windows since buying the club at the beginning of last year with the Chelsea owner facing criticism for his scattergun approach.

Speaking after using Marash Kumbulla as cover for Roger Ibanez, who was suspended for Roma’s 2-0 victory over Fiorentina, Mourinho said: “In order to get that quality, we must get the young players to grow. Tahirovic has this quality.

“We need a defender who can pass the ball better out of defence and Kumbulla is probably the one who does it best, but we need Ibanez because of his pace and determination.

“We need to find a solution, we can’t just buy Mudryk for €100m!”

Mourinho added: “I am not expecting anyone to arrive. The director [Tiago Pinto] was very honest and direct, he said things in an interview that a coach usually doesn’t like to hear.

“Coaches always want to hear we have…
