New York City have reportedly been approached by Brighton over a potential move for Valentin ‘Taty’ Castellanos as the Premier League club eye a replacement for Leandro Trossard this month.

Castellanos, 24, has spent the last four-and-a-half years with New York City but currently finds himself on loan at their sister Spanish outfit Girona until the end of the season.

The Argentine striker boasts a return of four goals in 16 LaLiga appearances this term, helping Girona take 21 points from a possible 51 on their return to the top flight, and The Independent claim Brighton have identified him as a potential replacement for Trossard.

Trossard appears set to leave the Seagulls this month after his public spat with head coach Roberto de Zerbi, who axed him from their squad to face Liverpool at the weekend due to concerns with his attitude.

He is believed to have returned home to Belgium after being dropped by De Zerbi, meaning a January departure now looks likely with Tottenham and Chelsea showing interest in signing him.

Brighton are already drawing up contingency plans, with New York City and Girona both receiving enquiries from the club over Castellanos.
