Chicago Fire mutually part ways with Bulgarian winger Stanislav Ivanov

The Chicago Fire have announced a mutual parting of ways with winger Stanislav Ivanov, effective immediately.

Ivanov – capped extensively for Bulgaria across various youth levels – joined the Fire from Levski Sofia in his homeland back in December 2020. The 23-year-old went on to make 27 appearances across all competitions, scoring just one goal and providing one assist.

The winger found chances increasingly difficult during the 2022 campaign, making just 15 appearances during the MLS regular season.

With the Fire boasting options like Chris Mueller and Jairo Torres as first-choice players in wide positions, and Xherdan Shaqiri and Brian Gutierrez both more than capable of switching there, Ivanov would have found playing time even harder to come by in 2023.

Chicago are preparing for their second season under head coach Ezra Hendrickson, who will be looking to guide the club back into the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2017. The Fire open their 2023 campaign at home to New York City FC on Saturday, March 4.
