‘Much worse than Mudryk’ – Arsenal star given transfer warning as Arteta is told to sign ex-Chelsea man

Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli takes part in a pre-match warm-up

Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli has been told he is “much worse” than Mykhaylo Mudryk after the Gunners make a new bid for the Shakhtar Donetsk winger.

Widespread reports have indicated that Arsenal have submitted their third offer for the Ukraine international as they look to get a deal over the line as soon as possible.

Mikel Arteta has been building a squad over the last couple of seasons that is capable of challenging for major honours with Arsenal currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

And January has given them the perfect opportunity to strengthen their squad in an attempt to consolidate their position as the Premier League leaders.

Brazil international Martinelli has been key to the Gunners’ rise up the league table with the 21-year-old scoring seven goals and creating two assists for his team-mates in 17 league matches this term.

But bizarrely former Ukrainian Premier League coach Vyacheslav Grozny thinks Martinelli has looked “much worse than Mudryk” since the Brazilian returned from the World Cup, despite contributing two goals and an assist in those four appearances.

“Mudryk wants to join Arsenal,” Grozny told FanDay. “Arteta wants to create a Ukrainian partnership with Mudry and (Oleksandr) Zinchenko on the left flank.

“He will play right away. There is no one better than Mudryk in his position at Arsenal. Martinelli, after the World Cup, needs time to return to his best level. He now looks much worse than Mudryk.”

As well as speculation about Mudryk, there have been rumours that Arsenal could be in the market for a striker with Eddie Nketiah currently their only fit senior striker after Gabriel Jesus was injured at the World Cup.

And former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell thinks Arsenal should try and sign Roma striker Tammy Abraham to boost their squad.

“Gabriel Jesus has obviously been out injured but Eddie Nketiah has come in and done a really good job,” Campbell told Sky Sports.

“That being said, it’s still firepower that Arsenal lack. You look at their bench and it’s great to see Emile Smith Rowe come back, but it’s not enough.

“Mykhaylo Mudryk will be a really good addition but I still think they need another striker. Rumour has it that they were interested in Tammy Abraham, I think that would be a good option as well.

“With him they can mix and match and play different players throughout the season because there’s a lot of games to come.”
