‘Incredible price’ revealed as Reds, Chelsea seek ‘agreement’ to sign Premier League star

Liverpool-linked Caicedo

Liverpool and Chelsea have been told that an ‘incredible price’ will be ‘needed’ for them to ‘reach an agreement’ to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

Caicedo has hit the ground running for the Seagulls over the past couple of seasons and he also performed well at the World Cup for Ecuador.

The 21-year-old has been earmarked as a huge star for the future and top clubs in the Premier League are already eyeing moves for him.

Liverpool’s reported interest is not a surprise as they are known to be in the market for at least one midfielder ahead of the summer.

Jude Bellingham is believed to be their main target but they need to consider alternatives in case they miss out on the Englishman.

Glen Johnson is not sold on Caicedo, though. He has claimed that he would not be the “perfect signing” for Liverpool.

“I don’t know if he’s the perfect signing for Liverpool’s midfield but he’d definitely be a good signing,” Johnson told Betfred.

“If they could get a deal done for sensible money then it would be a great deal, but if it was going to involve ridiculous money then it wouldn’t.

“He’s a tidy footballer that would suit the club but I don’t believe he’d be the perfect midfield signing for the club.”

Brighton operate astutely in the transfer market and they often ask for big fees for their prized assets. As an example, they had Chelsea’s pants down in the summer as Marc Cucurella was sold for around £62m.

Now Spanish outlet Fichajes are reporting that Brighton are asking for ‘incredible prices’ for Caicedo and World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister.

Brighton are said to be keen to retain both players as it is said that a ‘super offer’ would be needed for them to sell.

The report adds that ‘to reach an agreement’, clubs would need to ‘offer around €100m’.

Liverpool and Chelsea are ‘following both players closely’ but Atletico Madrid are also reportedly monitoring their situation.

Now, the report reads as if Caicedo and Mac Allister will cost €100m combined. The phrase ‘incredible’ feels a bit misplaced here because if true, clubs could get themselves a bit of a bargain.

Ben Jacobs tends to be more reliable than Fichajes and he thinks clubs will have to dig deeper into their pockets to get Caicedo, with £70m likely required to acquire him.

The journalist does feel that a transfer to Chelsea is a ‘real possibility’ for Caicedo.
