Sydney Collins and Angelina Anderson Take First Step in Professional Career

BERKELEY – Sydney Collins and Angelina Anderson of the Cal women’s soccer team were taken in the 2023 National Women’s Soccer League Draft Wednesday evening.
 
Collins was selected with eighth overall pick by the NC Courage while Anderson was taken in the third round as the 27th pick by Angel City FC. They are the eighth and ninth Bears selected in the NWSL Draft and the 10th and 11th selected in a professional draft. Collins ties Ifeoma Onumonu’s 2017 selection for the highest NWSL pick in program history. It is just the third time Cal has had multiple selections in the same 
 
A two-time All-Pac-12 selection, Collins played in 85 matches for the Bears and started in 84 at defender during her five-year career. As an anchor of the defense, she led the team with 1,900 minutes on the pitch during her final year which earned her a spot on her All-Pacific Region second team. This season, Collins and the Bears allowed just 17 total goals for 0.81 goal per game average. She was also named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree.
 
Anderson enjoyed a four-year career that saw her play and start in 72 matches between the posts for the Bears. The goalkeeper tallied 242 saves with a 0.788 save percentage and 0.91 goals allowed average in that time including three seasons where she had a sub-1.00 goals allowed average. Her career-high came in 2019 where she allowed just 15 goals and had 86 saves for a 0.71 goals allowed average. Anderson posted a 36-24-12 record in her career with 26 shutouts and concluded her Cal career this past season with a 10-5-6 record and a 0.88 goals allowed average in just over 1,744 minutes.
