Chelsea are considering a move for Real Madrid defender Rafa Marin, as Graham Potter’s ongoing squad rebuild at Stamford Bridge looks set to continue. 

The Blues are eyeing the Spanish 20-year-old as they search for a more affordable option with Potter and Todd Boehly looking to strengthen the team with an eye to compete at the highest level in the future.

The Madrid youngster is yet to feature for the senior team in a competitive game, but the powerful young defender has already turned heads across the continent.

With just 18 months left on his current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Marin could also be available for a cut-price fee this summer, with Juventus and RB Leipzig thought to be monitoring the situation, as per the Telegraph. 

And at a reported £5-10million, he would represent a much more economical alternative to many of the names that Potter’s Blues have been linked with of late. 

Moreover, the arrival of another youngster would also comply with Potter’s ethos of bringing in young players that will remain at the club for a considerable period, where he can monitor their development closely. 

If Los Blancos are unable to tie the defender down to  longer deal, they are thought to be more open to cashing in this summer, rather than risking him leave for free when his deal expires in summer 2024. 

As such a move for the player, who Chelsea are thought to have scouted extensively, is therefore likely but not impossible to materialise – especially with Boehly reportedly keen to establish a Red Bull-style multi-club system full of younger stars.
