Wake Forest Men's Soccer Announces Addition of Former High School All-American and Transfer Camilo Ponce

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Wake Forest men’s soccer has announced the addition of transfer Camilo Ponce. The Amityville, N.Y., native arrives in Winston-Salem after being named a 2021 United Soccer Coaches High School All-American and spending his first collegiate season at Boston College last fall.

During his senior season, Ponce was named an All-American after recording 17 goals along with 18 assists to lead Amityville Memorial High School to a Long Island Class A Boys Soccer Championship. In the championship-sealing match, Ponce scored a game-winning penalty kick late in the second half to secure a 3-2 victory.

Additionally, Ponce was a Newsday All-Long Island First-Team selection as a sophomore in 2019, collecting 21 goals with 19 assists.

Ponce is the latest addition to the 2023 roster, as the mid-year enrollee joins a nationally ranked recruiting class by TopDrawerSoccer. Winston-Salem native and four-time NC Fusion Player of the Year Liam O’Gara will also be joining the program as a mid-year enrollee.

“We are excited to add a player and person of Camlio’s caliber to the Wake Forest Family, as he is someone we have followed for a long time dating back to his high school career,” said head coach Bobby Muuss. “He is a skilled and quality playmaker and we look forward to seeing him utilize these skills to bolster our attack.”

During the fall of 2022, Ponce was a member of Boston College where he appeared in 16 matches with 11 starts to contribute three assists with one goal.

He was one of just three Boston College players to earn playing time in all 16 matches and the only underclassman to do so as he logged 944 minutes of playing time. Additionally, he started in ACC matchups against Louisville, NC State, Wake Forest, Syracuse and North Carolina.

In his collegiate debut, Ponce scored the Eagles’ first goal of the 2022 season in a 5-2 victory over Quinnipiac while also tallying an assist. He also set-up a game-winning goal against NC State and collected an additional assist against Endicott.
