Ferdinand urges Man Utd player to leave Old Trafford after being ‘disrespected’ by Ten Hag

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand looks over at the stands

Rio Ferdinand thinks it is time for Harry Maguire to leave Man Utd after being “disrespected” by Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

Maguire has come in for a lot of criticism over the last couple of years for his performances with some fans unconvinced he should be a regular starter.

However, his brilliant performances for England at the World Cup boosted Maguire’s profile again and he has now been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this month.

There were reports that Maguire was on his way to Aston Villa but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently dismissed those claims with Man Utd calling the reports ‘laughable’.

Maguire has only started four Premier League matches for Man Utd this season and Ten Hag has chosen to play left-back Luke Shaw at centre-back on a couple of occasions when Maguire was available for selection.

“I’d want to strangle Patrice! I would’ve smashed Patrice in training to make sure he’s not available, and I’d be going to the manager and saying, ‘are you taking the piss out of me, boss?’. I’d have walked straight into the manager’s office and said, ‘you’re disrespecting me’.

“Harry Maguire’s got to move. I think he stays because of the games and they can’t get someone else in. He plays in the cup games.”

And former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson agrees with Ferdinand that Ten Hag has “a problem with him” and reckons Maguire will be looking for the exit door.

Robinson told Football Insider: “You questions why Maguire cannot get into this Man United side.

“He played really well at the World Cup but then Luke Shaw has played ahead of him at United. Ten Hag has clearly got a problem with him. It is either something personal or he doesn’t rate him.

“Does Maguire need a new start, a new challenge, a new beginning? Perhaps. Maybe that would enable him to get back to his level on a regular basis.

“Ten Hag is going to be at United for a while. He is getting results. I cannot see Maguire being a part of the long-term plans…
