Potter Admits Chelsea 'Are Suffering As a Football Club' After FA Cup Exit

Chelsea boss Graham Potter concedes the club are “suffering” amid a poor run of results capped by Sunday’s 4-0 FA Cup loss to Manchester City.

The Blues were ripped apart by the English champions with three first-half goals from Riyad Mahrez, Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden practically settling the game before half-time.

Mahrez grabbed a second goal from the penalty spot in the 85th minute to round out a heavy loss for Chelsea.

It marks another poor result for Potter, since taking over from Thomas Tuchel in September.

The Blues are 10th in the Premier League and have won just once in their past seven games in all competitions.

“Well, the results in terms of the Premier League, I think weve lost four matches,” Potter said when asked about how much time was needed for him to get the side winning games.

“Newcastle away before the World Cup when we had nine players out, we lost 1-0 to Arsenal, we lost on a bad day at Brighton, and I think we lost to Man City.

“Those are the teams weve lost to and weve drawn against Manchester United and Brentford, so the results in a small space of time arent positive.

“Like Ive said, you can make excuses and look for reasons or you can say its not good enough.

“Both of those answers are correct so we have to keep improving and stick together because clearly were suffering as a football club and its not nice at all. Thats where were at at the moment.”

Fans in the Chelsea away section were heard chanting for Tuchel along with former owner Roman Abramovich during the game.

“We cant do anything apart from do our jobs better and work harder,” Potter said about the chants and atmosphere that creates.

“We understand the supporters frustration, that is understandable and well respect that. Our job is to do our jobs, to keep working, see the situation for what it is, and of course there are always other opinions, negativity and criticism because the results havent been positive. Thats part of the job and the challenge.”
