Leeds United are in talks with Hoffenheim over a £26million move for striker Georginio Rutter.

The France U21 international is not a prolific goalscorer but works hard and brings a lot of energy to the frontline.

Leeds have been scouring the market for another forward after missing out on Bamba Dieng and Cody Gakpo last summer.

Rutter is with Hoffenheim on their winter training camp in Albufeira, Portugal, but sat out a training match amid ongoing negotiations.

Rutter only cost Hoffenheim £700,0000 when he was signed from Rennes in 2021 but they believe the 20-year-old has great potential despite his inconsistency.

The Frenchman has played 15 games in the Bundesliga so far for Hoffenheim, but has scored only two goals and made two assists.

Over the past five years, the 20-year-old has been capped at every youth level for France, scoring a combined 21 goals in 58 games across the teams.

The Whites are 11th in the Premier League table for goals scored, having managed more than the likes of Chelsea, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, but are sat in 14th place with 17 points from as many games.

Jesse Marsch can currently call upon Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo and Wilfired Gnonto as well as youngster Joe Gelhardt up front.

But the four have only managed a combined 11 goals in the Premier League, with neither Bamford nor Gelhardt registering yet.

Leeds agreed to pay Red Bull Salzburg £14m for defender Max Wober last week and want to add two younger players this window also. Birmingham City midfielder George Hall remains one option.

The 18-year-old England youth international has managed a goal and an assist in 18 games for the Blues in the Championship.
