Duke’s Cooper Wins MAC Hermann Trophy


ST. LOUIS, Mo. (theACC.com) – After scoring 19 goals and totaling 11 assists this season, Duke sophomore forward Michelle Cooper is the recipient of the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy, presented to the top player in NCAA Division I soccer.
 
Cooper is the 15th recipient of the Hermann Trophy from the Atlantic Coast Conference, while current membership has claimed 19 since its inception in 1988. She the first Blue Devil to earn the award and third straight winner from the ACC.
 
The Clarkston, Michigan, native led Duke to quarterfinals of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, as she scored six goals in four NCAA Tournament matches. Following the conclusion of the regular season, Cooper was named the 2022 ACC Offensive Player of the Year after she totaled a league-leading 20 points in conference matches (seven goals and six assists).
 
Cooper ranked second nationally in points (49), tied for second in goals (19) and tied for ninth in assists (11). She was one of only two players in the country this season to hit double figures in both goals and assists.
 
The MAC Hermann Trophy, a 10-pound crystal soccer ball, is awarded to the United Soccer Coaches National Players of the Year in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s soccer based on voting conducted by member coaches.
