Chelsea secure second signing of the January transfer window as Badiashile signs on

Chelsea signing Benoit Badiashile signs his contract

Chelsea have made their second signing of the January transfer window with Benoit Badiashile joining from French side Monaco.

The Blues secured their first signing when David Datro Fofana, who celebrated his 20th birthday at the end of last year, officially joined Graham Potter’s side on New Year’s Day.

Fofana has scored four goals across 10 appearances in all competitions so far this season for one of Erling Haaland’s former clubs.

The Ivory Coast international, who has signed a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge, was integral to Molde securing the Eliteserien title last season, finishing with 15 goals and five assists in that competition and 21 across all tournaments.

He will offer Chelsea a fresh attacking option following the news that Armando Broja will miss the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

And now Badiashile has followed him through the door at Stamford Bridge with the dominant central defender joining from Monaco.

The 21-year-old has signed a seven-and-a-half-year deal and joins for a reported £35million having made over 100 appearances in Ligue 1 for the Principality side.

He has also played in the Champions League and been capped twice by the national team, making his debut for Didier Deschamps’ World Cup finalists in a 2-1 win against Austria last September.

On signing for Chelsea, Badiashile told the club’s official website: “I’m very happy to be here at Chelsea. I’m so excited to start playing for this club. I can’t wait to see the fans and start playing in the best league in the world.”

And Chelsea owner Todd Boehly also commented on the signing: “We’re delighted to welcome Benoit to Chelsea. He’s an excellent young player who has quickly established a strong reputation for himself and has a huge amount of experience for his young age. We are sure he will form an important part of our team in the years ahead.”
