Liverpool man ‘included’ in €40m deal for Arsenal defender with Arteta’s side ‘expected’ to seal free transfer

Arsenal-linked Arthur

Juventus reportedly remain interested in Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes and they are hoping to sign the centre-back later this year.

The centre-back joined the Gunners in 2020 from French side Lille for around £27m.

Gabriel has been a key player for Arsenal over the past couple of seasons and this term he has formed a brilliant partnership with William Saliba.

The latter is out of contract in 2024 but Arsenal are hoping to tie him down to a more long-term deal.

They are clearly keen for Saliba and Gabriel to be their first-choice centre-back partnership for many years to come.

But Juventus intend to spoil their plans as they are being linked with a move for Gabriel.

The Serie A outfit have been ‘tracking the defender for some time’, according to Calciomercato.

Juventus plan to move for Gabriel next summer and it is claimed in the report that he is valued at €40m by Arsenal.

The report claims that the ‘cost of the operation could be further reduced’ by offering Arthur Melo to Arsenal as part of the Gabriel deal.

Mikel Arteta ‘really likes’ the midfielder who currently finds himself on loan at Liverpool.

Arsenal were linked with him during the winter transfer window last year but he ended up staying at Juventus until the summer.

Liverpool recruited him before the 2022/23 campaign as they were short of options in midfield with Jordan Henderson and Thiago both out injured.

Arthur’s spell at Liverpool has been a bit of a disaster. He has been restricted to three appearances as he has been out of action for a couple of months due to a thigh injury.

He is under contract at Juventus until 2025 but he is likely to leave the club this year with him seemingly not figuring into Max Allegri’s plans.

Arsenal are known to be in the market for a centre-midfielder, but Arthur’s ill-fated spell at Liverpool may put them off.

They are said to be admirers of Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans and he is set to be available on a free transfer in the summer. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is also being linked with a move to the Emirates.

The report from Calciomercato states that Gabriel leaving is set to become more likely as Arsenal are ‘set to sign’ Evan Ndicka from Eintracht Frankfurt.

This could set a ‘domino effect’ in motion and would seemingly boost Juventus’ hopes of signing Gabriel.

Ndicka is due to be out of contract in June and a free transfer to the Gunners is ‘in the pipeline’.

A report last month claimed that Ndicka’s move to…
