Andrey Santos is jokingly TIED UP by his Vasco da Gama team-mates in an attempt to stop him catching his plane for Chelsea as Blues look set to beat Newcastle and Man City to 18-year-old midfielder’s signature

Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos is thought to be nearing a move to Chelsea, but his team-mates at Vasco da Gama are pulling out all the stops to keep him after a photo surfaced of the 18-year-old being tied up.

Santos is one of his country’s most highly-regarded young midfield talents, and his current side seem inclined to agree as several players physically restrained him in jest to prevent a big-money move to the Premier League

With N’Golo Kante and Jorginho both likely to leave the club at the end of the season, Graham Potter will want to bring in fresher faces to bolster his midfield, with the Blues also linked with World Cup Young Player of the Tournament Enzo Fernandez

ESPN reported earlier in December that an agreement had been made between the two sides, with a deal likely to be completed in January for the midfield starlet.

Despite his age, Santos has already made 37 appearances for the Brazilian second-tier side, scoring eight goals along the way.

The midfielder has also been capped at under-20 level for Brazil, he has emerged as on of the hottest talents in football after guiding his side to a fourth-placed finish in the league.

Influential at both ends of the pitch, Santos would bring Potter’s Chelsea a midfielder who is as effective going forward as he is with his back to goal.

Given his age he is likely to also become a long-term feature in the ex-Brighton boss’ new-look Chelsea, built around young talents.

Potter has already cemented deals for David Datro Fofana from Molde FK, Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa, Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan, Gabriel Slonina from Chicago Fire and Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal.
