Man Utd flop Donny van de Beek has “five to six months” to save his Old Trafford career, according to former defender Mikael Silvestre.
The Netherlands international arrived at United in 2020 from Ajax in a deal worth a reported £40m but it couldn’t have gone much worse for the Dutchman.
He managed 36 appearances in all competitions during his first season at Old Trafford but only made four starts for the Red Devils in the Premier League.
Van de Beek didn’t start one match for Man Utd in the first six months of last season with the Red Devils agreeing to loan him to Everton for the remainder of the season.
The 25-year-old eventually fell out of favour at Goodison Park too before returning to Man Utd for the start of this campaign under former manager Erik ten Hag – but his compatriot has done him no favours with just one Premier League start so far this term.
And now former Man Utd defender Silvestre claims the Red Devils should sell him if there is no “change” in the remainder of this season.
“We haven’t seen a change for Donny van de Beek unfortunately,” Silvestre told bettingexpert.
“He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to start. We haven’t seen the player he was at Ajax. If it’s not within the next five to six months, till the end of the season, then there should be a change.
“Yes there are a lot of games to come so there will be a need for fresh players. We expect him to come from the bench and grab the opportunities.
“It’s hard when you don’t have a run of games. Let’s wait and see for Donny van de Beek.”
And former striker Louis Saha has also suggested that Van de Beek will have to be sold if they want to bring in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong or another midfielder.
“Frenkie de Jong would be a great signing for Manchester United because he’s a great player,” Saha told Paddy Power. “He did well at the World Cup and is very composed.
“But, if Casemiro keeps the form he had for Brazil at the World Cup, there isn’t a single player in the world better than him. His aggression and composure is at the top, and that’s how I see it.
“Competition in the squad is good but having so many midfielders isn’t always healthy. Donny van de Beek hasn’t played particularly well and if United want to bring in De Jong, there will have to be some departures.
