Pep Labels De Bruyne 'One of City's All-Time Greatest Players'

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has lavished praise on Kevin De Bruyne as “one fot he greatest players of all-time for the club” after a dazzling display in their 3-2 League Cup win over Liverpool on Thursday.’

City moved into the League Cup quarter-finals with the win which was hard fought, going ahead three times with goals from Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Ake.

De Bruyne provided the assists for Haaland and Ake’s goals, prompting praise from the Spanish boss.

“Today was outstanding,” Guardiola said about the Belgian. “Kevin has been eight years here. He just needs sometimes to find the right fire inside of himself, to be a little bit, I would say, I dont know, grumpy or upset to play his best.

“He had to put the energy inside of him. When this happens, what a player. The runs, the fight, assists, score goals. He is a model player.

“I know it’s not easy to find every three days this consistency but in the important games, like today was, it has something inside say: ‘I’m going to do it, I’m going to be contact, I’m going to fight’. When this happens, it’s Mr Kevin De Bruyne.

“What can I say? Eight years has done everything for this club. He is absolute legend.

“He will be remembered forever one of the greatest, greatest, greatest players of all-time for this club.”

The 31-year-old has scored 89 goals in 327 appearances for City, whom he joined from VfL Wolfsburg in 2015.

De Bruyne is a four-time Premier League winner and five-time League Cup winner, but the UEFA Champions League crown eludes him, having been a runner-up with City in 2021.
