Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his social media silence following Lionel Messi and Argentina’s World Cup triumph.

The 37-year-old forward has been quiet on all platforms over the last week, as his long-term rival won the tournament in Qatar after a 4-2 penalty shootout win over France.

However – with rumours over his £175m-per-year move to Saudi Arabia circulating – the striker has shared a picture of himself in the pool as he recovers from a workout.

Ronaldo took to social media to share a picture with his followers. He stood, smiling, in a swimming pool before taking a selfie and posting it on Instagram.

There was no caption for the picture – as it was posted on a story – but he did use a range of emojis to showcase his recent activities.

The former Man United star used emojis which depicted a ‘freezing man’, swimming goggles and a man working out in the gym.

Ronaldo had been training with his former club Real Madrid but, last week, flew to Dubai and is currently staying there while his domestic future is ironed out.

Fans will be grateful that the meaning behind Ronaldo’s post is clear, after his  cryptic message shortly after Portugal’s World Cup elimination. 

The forward shared a picture on Instagram that detailed his ‘three aspects of reality’ as ‘pain, uncertainty and constant work’.
