Shakhtar Donetsk sporting director has confirmed Arsenal’s “interest” in winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, who will be too expensive for clubs from Italy.
Mudryk has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League since the summer transfer window.
The Ukrainian forward was attracting interest from Arsenal, Brentford and Everton last summer, when he was reportedly valued at around £30million.
However, his exploits in the Champions League this term – plus how much clubs have been spending in the transfer market – have seen his price greatly increase.
Reports have suggested that Shakhtar want around £85m for their prized asset, though several journalists have suggested they would be willing to accept a lower offer.
The likes of Brentford and Everton will probably be out of the running to sign Mudryk in January, though Arsenal remain constantly linked with the 21-year-old.
Mikel Arteta is eager to bolster his attack, and following the injury to Gabriel Jesus, is expected to do just that when the transfer window re-opens next month.
Manchester City, Newcastle United, and several other clubs around Europe are believed to be interested in signing Mudryk, who seems destined to leave Shakhtar in 2023.
It is not clear whether or not he will be sold in the winter or summer window, however.
Arsenal’s desire to sign Mudryk has been very well documented, and it is no surprise to see Shakhtar’s sporting director Carlo Nicolini confirm the Premier League leaders’ interest.
Having said that, fans will see this as a boost and are hoping the Gunners’ interest turns into a formal bid in January.
Nicolini told Calciomercato.it: “Today, Mudryk has been told, like all other players, to present himself for the training in Antalya on the 9th of January. There is interest from Arsenal, I cannot deny it.”
The director says there have been no official bids made for Mudryk, but believes interested clubs from Italy will be priced out of a deal.
“Many clubs are interested in Mudryk, but there weren’t official offers,” he added. “In my opinion, Italian teams have not enough economic strength for a player like this.
