December 16, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1)North Carolina FC News Release

CARY, N.C. – North Carolina FC announces the return of forward Shakeem “Shak” Adams, transferring his contract to the club from the Charleston Battery. Adams played for NCFC last season on loan from the Battery and will now be a full-time member of the squad.

Adams logged 600 minutes across 13 matches, including eight starts, for North Carolina FC last season after appearing in nine matches for Charleston prior to the loan. Adams scored twice for NCFC, including a thrilling 90+3′ game-winner in the team’s 2-1 defeat of Forward Madison at WakeMed Soccer Park.

“Shak has proven to be dangerous in the attack and his pace of play makes him a very difficult matchup in this league. We saw tremendous strides in his play as he became more comfortable in our system after joining midway through last season. With a full off-season and training camp, we expect him to be a consistent goal-scoring threat this year and he’ll make us very dynamic in the attacking third,” said head coach John Bradford.

The 24-year-old was selected in the third round of the 2020 MLS Draft by his hometown Nashville SC out of Florida Gulf Coast. He made his professional playing debut in 2020 with FC Tucson, playing in 38 matches over two seasons with the League One club before signing with Charleston ahead of the 2022 season.

Overall, Adams has 60 professional caps and over 3,400 minutes of experience. He’s scored 13 goals and has four assists. The NCFC roster now has 17 active players, including five forwards: Adams, Oalex Anderson, Cole Frame, Marvin Mariche, and Garrett McLaughlin.
