Erik ten Hag ‘directly asks’ for £43m signing as ‘four January priorities’ are revealed

Ten Hag on transfers

Man Utd reportedly have ‘four priorities’ heading into the January transfer window and Erik ten Hag has ‘directly asked’ for one signing.

United spent over £200m on new players in the summer as they brought in the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Casemiro.

They are far from done there though as Ten Hag is still in the process of building the squad he wants at Old Trafford.

Life has been made difficult for Ten Hag this season. This has largely been down to Cristiano Ronaldo kicking up a fuss after he was not allowed to leave in the summer.

After various flare-ups, Ronaldo’s contract has been mutually terminated so he is a free agent heading into January.

While this is likely what Ten Hag would have wanted, the veteran’s departure does leave him short of options in attacking areas.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are capable of playing up front but the latter has been injured for most of this campaign.

Rashford meanwhile has been in great form but he is out of contract next year.

Man Utd do benefit from having the option to extend his deal automatically by a further year. They are in the same boat with Rashford as they are with Diogo Dalot.

The Red Devils are also in the process of offering 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho a new contract.

The teenager has been linked with Real Madrid in recent weeks but Man Utd are keen to keep him long-term.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that three of United’s priorities for January are to tie down Dalot, Rashford and Garnacho to longer deals.

The reporter has added that the fourth priority for United next month is to ‘decide on a new striker’.

‘Manchester United are discussing internally about next steps to do, so it’s time to decide the strategy, budget is a key factor after spending big money in the summer,’ Romano wrote for Caught Offside.

‘New contracts are key topic too: Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are three priorities, talks will take place with all of them waiting for United to decide on a new striker.

‘In my opinion, United getting in the top four this season depends on who they can sign up front, let’s see what they will do!

‘I can add that Manchester United are not in negotiations to sign Denzel Dumfries as of now. Let’s see if that changes, but for now, their priority is a new contract for Dalot.’

Romano claims that Man Utd are ‘not in negotiations to sign Denzel Dumfries’ but this has been disputed by another outlet.
