Chicago Red Stars trade Sarah Luebbert to Club America Femenil

The Chicago Red Stars have permanently transferred Sarah Luebbert to Liga MX Femenil’s Club America, in exchange for an agreed upon fee.

“I’d like to thank Sarah for her contributions to the Red Stars over the last few years,” said Associate General Manager, Michelle Lomnicki.

“Last season, Sarah came back to a different Red Stars team, took what was asked of her and jumped in to help this team reach the playoffs. Thank you, Sarah, and good luck in Mexico.”

The player returns to Mexico, after originally joining on a one-year loan for the 2021 Apertura and 2022 Clausura at the request of then head coach Craig Harrington. Though she formed an integral part of the team at the time, she returned to the Red Stars when the loan expired.

Luebbert went on to make 13 more appearances for the NWSL side, tallying a total of 28 games throughout the 2020 and 2022 campaigns.

Club America concluded the 2022 Apertura in third place without Luebbert, managing a total of 36 points in 17 before falling 3-0 on aggregate over the two-legged Liguilla final against Tigres UANL.

The team is now focused on the 2023 Clausura, which kicks off on January 7 against Cruz Azul.
