Sporting Kansas City II has acquired 21-year-old midfielder Ethan Bryant in a transfer from the Richmond Kickers, the club announced today. Bryant will join Sporting II for the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season fresh off being named the 2022 USL League One Young Player of the Year following a breakout season in Virginia.

Bryant began his professional career as a 16-year-old with San Antonio FC in the USL Championship, becoming the youngest player in club history when he made his debut in a U.S. Open Cup clash against Colorado Springs on May 23, 2018. He tallied one goal and three assists in 10 USL Championship appearances in 2018 before adding another goal in six matches in 2019.

Midway through the 2019 campaign, Bryant moved to Belgian side K.S.V. Roeselare but returned to San Antonio in 2020 after Roeselare folded as a club.

After only making two appearances for San Antonio in 2020, Bryant went on loan to the Richmond Kickers in USL League One in the summer of 2021 and found his footing, making 13 appearances during the remainder of the season.

Richmond made the move permanent ahead of the 2022 campaign which allowed the Longview, Texas native to flourish. Bryant played in 28 of Richmond’s 31 USL League One matches, tallying three goals and five assists on his way to being named USL League One Young Player of the Year.

On the international stage, Bryant represented the U.S. Under-18 National Team in 2019.
