Leeds issue hands off warning to Man Utd after summer signing ‘catches the eye’ of Erik ten Hag

Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams acknowledges the fans after a defeat

Manchester United are interested in signing United States captain Tyler Adams from arch-rivals Leeds United, according to TEAMtalk.

Writing for TEAMtalk, transfer journalist Graeme Bailey has said Leeds have no intention of letting the American midfielder leave this winter.

There is interest from Serie A duo Inter Milan and Fiorentina, as well as Manchester United, Bailey claims.

Adams joined the Whites from RB Leipzig last summer and has been very impressive since moving to West Yorkshire.

Signed for a mere £17million – potentially rising to £20m – Adams captained the USA at the World Cup, where they were knocked out by the Netherlands in the last 16.

The 23-year-old has slotted very nicely into Jesse Marsch’s system and has made 13 Premier League appearances this term, missing only one top-flight game so far.

It is no surprise to see clubs eyeing up a move for the former Leipzig midfielder, with many probably kicking themselves for letting him move in the summer for such a low fee.

Phillips was never going to swap his boyhood club for Old Trafford due to the rivalry between the two teams, while probably Adams won’t have that dilemma in his mind should United come calling.

Bailey adds that Adams’ performances in the Premier League have ‘caught Erik ten Hag’s eye’.

However, it is noted that Ten Hag is no longer prioritising the signing of a new midfielder following the summer arrival of Casemiro.

A TEAMtalk report earlier this month stated that Adams will ‘assess his options at the end of the season’.

“From what I’m told, he’s going to see out the season and probably see what lands after that point,” journalist Dean Jones said.

Bailey says Adams feels at home at Elland Road, and reiterates that Leeds have no desire to let him leave next month.

He said: “I know Leeds fans have been worried about the future of Tyler Adams and that he could be sold in January, but that’s most certainly not in the plans of the club’s hierarchy.

“Adams has become a key part of Jesse Marsch’s squad since arriving in the summer. And despite his outstanding showing at the World Cup finals, he won’t be going.

“The player is also very happy at Elland Road and from what I am told he is determined to prove himself in the Premier…
