Mirkovic And Noel Earn All-South Region Honors


PITTSBURGH – Two Pitt men’s soccer players were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region team, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.
 
Senior Valentin Noel and junior Filip Mirkovic earned First First Team honors as Pitt now has 18 student-athletes earn All-Region recognition including 14 under head coach Jay Vidovich.
 
Noel, a First Team All-ACC performer, became the first Panther in program history to earn First Team All-South Region honors three times, doing so in each of the last three seasons. The Niort, France native has been dynamic for the Panthers this season as he leads the Panthers and ranks second in the ACC in goals (12) while also leading the squad and ranking tied for second in the conference in points (25). Noel has turned up his play in the postseason as he has four goals and eight points in the last three wins for the Panthers as they downed #16 Akron, #1 Kentucky and Portland to advance to the College Cup.
 
For his career, Noel currently ranks second in program history in goals (35) while ranking third in points (83). He is just one point and two goals shy of taking over the program record for goals and points in a career. The senior also leads all active ACC players in career shots (171), points (83) and goals (35).
 
Mirkovic, a fellow First Team All-ACC performer, earns All-South Region honors for the first time in his career as he was a First Team honoree after setting a program single season record for assists with 12. The Manhattan, NY native has been outstanding in the midfield for Pitt all season long as he has recorded three goals, a career-high 12 assists and 18 points in 19 matches so far this season. The junior leads the ACC in assists (12) while being tied for seventh in points (18). His 0.63 assists per game leads the ACC and ranks fifth in the NCAA this season.
 
For his career, Mirkovic has recorded nine goals, 19 assists and 37 points. His 19 assists are the fourth most in program history for assists in a career.
