Five Blue Devils Earn All-Region Honors

DURHAM – The United Soccer Coaches organization has announced the All-Region teams for the 2022 season, with five Duke men’s soccer players being recognized in the All-South region.

Eliot Hamill, Shakur Mohammed and Peter Stroud all earned First Team honors, while Kamran Acito and Nick Pariano were named to the Third Team. The three First Team selections are the most in program history since 2010 (James Belshaw, Ryan Finley and Andrew Wenger).

Hamill, a graduate student, finished the 2022 season with 12 clean sheets and is tied for second-place in program history for shutouts in a single season. The Scarsdale, N.Y., native was named ACC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-ACC after playing all 1,710 minutes and finishing with a 0.58 goals against average and a .845 save percentage, both career bests.

Mohammed improved on a freshman campaign where he was named ACC Freshman of the Year, by leading the Blue Devils in goals scored (10) and total points (22) in 2022, both career-highs. The sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana finished with a .368 shot-on-goal percentage, another career-best, and was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ACC.

Stroud, named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List and considered a top player in the country, provided a steady presence in Duke’s midfield all season long and makes his second straight appearance on the All-South First Team. His five assists during the regular season set a new career high and the junior from Chester, N.J., became the first player in ACC history to earn back-to-back ACC Midfielder of the Year recognition while also being named First Team All-ACC.

Acito was named ACC Freshman of the Year while playing the second-most percentage of regular season minutes by a freshman defender (98.4%) in program history. The Manhattan, N.Y., native became the second consecutive Blue Devil to be named Freshman of the Year after Mohammed’s selection in 2021 and scored the first goal of his career in Duke’s NCAA Tournament victory over Denver in the second round.

Pariano, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., led the Blue Devils with seven assists in 2022 and finished the year tied with Stroud for second-most total points (9). The junior also earned Second Team All-ACC recognition and started in all 19 of Duke’s matches.
