ROSEMONT, Ill. –

The Indiana men’s soccer team will make its NCAA-record 22nd appearance in the NCAA College Cup on Friday, after Saturday night’s 2-0 win at No. 12 UNC-Greensboro. The Hoosiers will face Pittsburg at 8:30 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

Friday’s national semifinal round appearance will mark the Hoosiers’ fourth College Cup appearance in the last six years. A victory over the Panthers would send the side back to the NCAA championship match for the 17th time in program history.

Indiana took the lead just 15 minutes after the opening whistle, as  senior forward Maouloune Goumballe took senior defender Brett Bebej’s throw-in inside the box with his back to goal, tapped the ball into the air on his left, turned and struck a volley past the reaching goalkeeper to give IU the early lead.

The Hoosiers extended their lead in the 63rd minute, when sophomore midfielder Patrick McDonald slotted a pass to classmate Samuel Sarver, who beat the UNCG goalkeeper for a  commanding 2-0 lead.

Goaltender JT Harms recorded four saves, extending Indiana’s shutout streak to 270 minutes, spanning each of its three NCAA Tournament wins.

Pitt will enter Friday’s College Cup match riding the momentum from a pair of late game-winning goals in its last two matches. In a 2-1 quarterfinal round defeat of No 1 Kentucky, junior Bertin Jacquesson scored the game-winner in the 87th minute, before assisting on senior Valentin Noel’s 104th minute marker in Saturday’s 1-0 overtime win over Portland.

Saturday’s other College Cup matchup pits No. 3 Syracuse against Creighton.  Saturday’s winners will meet on Monday at 6 p.m. for the 2022 NCAA title.

All three College Cup matches will be broadcast on ESPNU.
