November 30, 2022 – National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) – Washington Spirit News Release
Washington, D.C. – Washington Spirit midfielder Marissa Sheva has re-signed with the team on a new one-year contract, the club announced today.
Sheva totaled 302 minutes of action in eight appearances for the Spirit last season, including two huge full-90 outings during July’s international window. Upon joining the club in June 2022, Sheva was classified as a COVID-19 replacement player, injury replacement player and national team replacement player before eventually signing on as a full roster member in August.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be back for 2023,” said Sheva. “I love this team and the vision for the future of this club is world-class. I’m so thankful for the opportunity!”
Originally from Sellersville, Pennsylvania, Sheva played four seasons at Penn State before beginning her professional career. Across 92 collegiate appearances, Sheva tallied 13 goals and nine assists for the Nittany Lions. She played for Deportivo Alavés Gloriosas in Primera División, the top-tier women’s league in Spain, and the NWSL’s Utah Royals FC before her time in the District.
“Marissa provided valuable depth to the Spirit roster this season and we are excited to keep her with the club for another year,” said Mark Krikorian, President of Soccer Operations. “We look forward to Marissa’s continued development as a player and contributions to the team.”
