Women’s Soccer | November 30, 2022

LOS ANGELES — For the second straight season, USC women’s soccer standout midfielder Croix Bethune was named a semifinalist for college soccer’s top award, the MAC Hermann Trophy.

Bethune is one 15 semifinalists for the award and one of just two players on the list for the second straight season. She is also the only Pac-12 player on the list this season and the only player in USC history to be named a semifinalist for the award twice.

After recording eight goals, nine assists and 25 total points, the USC senior was named the Pac-12 Midfielder of the Year for the second consecutive season in 2022, becoming the first player to earn the award in back-to-back years. She was also named to the All-Pac-12 first team for the third straight year.

Bethune led the Trojans in all major offensive categories, and her nine total assists and 0.64 assists per game were first in the Pac-12 during the regular season and her 0.57 goals per game were fourth in the league. She had three multi-goal games this season and recorded a goal and an assist in four different matches.

Bethune led the Trojans to their ninth straight postseason appearance this year and helped USC reach as high as No. 8 in the national rankings. She is now seventh on USC’s career list for total points (78) and goals (27) and is tied for sixth with 24 career assists.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Three finalists for the award will be named on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 6, 2023 to formally announce this year’s winners.
