MLS outfit Inter Miami expect to complete a deal for PSG star Lionel Messi and will make him the highest-paid player in MLS history.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Messi’s future as his deal with PSG expires at the end of the season.

Messi has been focused on the World Cup with Argentina and it was reported that he will come to a final decision after the tournament.

The Times has reported that Inter Miami expect to complete a deal for the 35-year-old.

The report explains: ‘The franchisee, which is co-owned by David Beckham, expect Messi to move from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the European season.

‘It is understood that Messi has a home in Miami and enjoys holidays there with his family. He told Spanish media last year that playing in the United States had always been his dream.

‘Beckham’s influence is said to be key to the deal – as an ambassador for the Qataris at the World Cup, he has a direct line to the PSG owners. The former England captain also has a relationship with Messi through their association with Adidas.

‘Messi’s PSG contract, reportedly worth £1.2 million a week, expires at the end of the season. The French club may attempt to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes, however, particularly if he lifts the World Cup next month.

‘With the next World Cup taking place in the US, as well as Canada and Mexico, Messi’s arrival would be timely and could help elevate the position of MLS in the US sporting landscape.’

Messi has been in fine form recently for both club and country. He inspired Argentina’s 2-0 win over Mexico with a fine strike from outside the box.

For PSG this season he has been back to his best with 26 goal contributions across all competitions.

Even at 35 years old, Messi is still one of the best players in the world and clearly has the ability to play at the top level for the next years to come.

It has also been reported that should Messi decide to sign for Inter Miami, he will become the highest-paid player in the league’s history.

Messi would chance the entire landscape of football in North America and his signing would surely see the rating figures boom in the MLS.
