Piers Morgan has once again urged Arsenal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo – posting a picture of the Portuguese superstar holding up an Arsenal shirt from a previous interview together. 

As a result of his bombshell interview with the TV presenter last week, Ronaldo and Manchester United mutually agreed on Tuesday to terminate his contract at the club.

Posting a photo of them together during a previous interview, in which Ronaldo was handed a Gunners shirt with ‘Ronaldo 7’ on the back, Morgan cryptically captioned the tweet ‘time for phase two’ – before mocking United for losing the ‘greatest player of all time’.

A United fan tweeted at Morgan saying: ‘@piersmorgan Thank you Piers for making Ten Hag look like even more of a boss. You’ve saved United millions and helped us get back to where we belong.’

The 57-year-old then replied: ‘You’re 5th in the League, 11pts behind Arsenal, facing elimination to Barcelona in the Europa play-offs, and you just lost the greatest footballer in history who scored 24 goals for you last season, because your ‘boss’ manager disrespected him. Congrats.. and good luck!’

It is the latest in a long line of jovial attempts by the broadcaster to get the Portuguese forward to join the north London club.

In the summer, when reports began to emerge of Ronaldo’s unhappiness at Manchester United with the club having failed to qualify for the Champions League, Morgan tweeted ‘it’s time’ alongside a photo of him handing a shirt to the Portuguese. 

Perhaps encouraged by Ronaldo’s recalcitrance at Manchester United, which first emerged in the public sphere from the man himself last week, Morgan tweeted in response to a question about whether he would sign the forward for Arsenal: ‘Yes, actually.
