Five Orange Garner Academic All-District Honors


Five student-athletes on the Syracuse men’s soccer team earned a spot on the 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team. Seniors Colin Biros, Buster Sjoberg and Noah Singelmann are joined by sophomores Julius Rauch and Giona Leibold on the 2022 Academic All-District Team.

Biros, a senior midfielder, is majoring in communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Arts and Sciences. Biros has 37 appearances and 28 starts in his Orange career, joining head coach Ian McIntyre‘s squad in 2021 after playing at the University of Akron for three years. Across 87 collegiate appearances, Biros has nine goals, 12 assists and 30 points. The Jackson, Ohio native earned a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll for the 2021-22 academic year. Biros also garnered Syracuse Athletic Director’s Honor Roll status for the 2022 spring semester.

Sjoberg, a senior defender from Uppsala, Sweden, is majoring in finance in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. Sjoberg is a staple in the Syracuse defense, starting in all 34 matches he has appeared in. Sjoberg earned ACC Academic Honor Roll status, along with a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team for the 2021 season. The Swedish defender also earned a spot on the Syracuse Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for both semesters. Prior to his time in upstate New York, Sjoberg started his collegiate career at Wofford College, starting in 26 matches and scoring three goals. Sjoberg was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18, 2022 after solid performances in wins against Louisville and Loyola.

Singelmann, a senior defender from Rheinstetten, Germany, is a two-time team captain and is majoring in economics in the College of Arts and Sciences. A four-year starter, Singelmann has made 69 appearances, scoring six goals and tallying nine assists, leading the Orange in points in the 2020 season. Singelmann has made the ACC Academic Honor Roll every year of his collegiate career so far, earning a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. The German defender is a member of the ACC Advisory Committee, providing feedback to the conference offices on student-athlete life. Singelmann is also a representative on Syracuse’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Leibold, a sophomore midfielder, is a two-year starter and is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. Since arriving on campus, Leibold has solidified his spot on the wing, making 31 appearances. The Wiesbaden, Germany…
