Morris Named to World Cup Squad

NEW YORK CITY – Jordan Morris has been named to the United States Men’s National Team 26-man roster for the World Cup, the team announced on Wednesday. He becomes the first Cardinal men’s soccer player ever named to a United States World Cup roster.

Morris will travel to Qatar for the World Cup later this month, as the team prepares to make its return to the world stage after missing out on qualifying for the competition in 2018.

Morris has featured in nine games for the national team this calendar year, earning two starts and scoring a goal. The former NCAA champion is coming off a productive season with the Seattle Sounders, where he helped lead the squad to become the first MLS team to win the CONCACAF Champions League.

During the 2022 MLS season, Morris tallied seven goals and four assists in 29 total appearances for the Sounders, including 27 starts. His goal total was good for second-most on the team.

A pivotal player on Stanford’s 2015 national championship team, Jordan Morris became the first MAC Hermann Trophy winner in program history and signed the most anticipated Homegrown Player contract in MLS history when he inked a deal with the Seattle Sounders. During the 2015 campaign, he led the Cardinal in goals and points with 13 and 29 respectively.

Morris will look to help the United States battle in the group stage at the World Cup, as the USMNT prepares to face England, Wales, and Iran in group B, starting with Wales on November 21.
