SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC goalkeeper Jordan Farr has been named the USL Championship Goalkeeper of the Year, the league announced today.
“”It means a lot of different things to me. For guys like me, coming from where I’ve come from, don’t normally get recognized at this level or even get a chance to play at this level,” said Farr. “Coming from NAIA in college, playing PDL and not making academy teams or being on the radar for any MLS teams, this means a lot for not only me but my family. Every coach and teammate that believed in me. This goes to my wife, I cant do anything without her. And for us as a family, it validates a lifelong dream of being a professional soccer player playing at one of the highest levels.”
Farr was named to the USL Championship All-League First Team last week, and was twice selected as the league Player of the Month, the only player in the league to accomplish the feat twice.
On the field, Farr tied a regular season league record for single-season shutouts with 15. Farr finished the regular season with a 75.8 save percentage and a 0.78 goals-against average. The award is based only on regular season performance, however Farr has carried the success over into the postseason as well. The Oregon native has posted back-to-back shutouts in the Western Conference Semifinal and Final, helping guide SAFC to the club’s first-ever trip to the USL Championship Final.
Farr is the second player from San Antonio FC to ever receive the award, joining Diego Restrepo from 2017.
“I just feel a lot of pride for San Antonio,” added Farr. “There isn’t a fan base that deserves this more. How much passion they bring to the stadium and to the team and the organization. And how they just constantly are creating a culture of unity in San Antonio, even though there have been some ups and downs.”
Farr and SAFC are in action this Sunday, hosting the USL Championship Final at Toyota Field on November 13. Tickets for the match are on sale now at SanAntonioFC.com or the SAFC app, with the massive matchup also broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.
