Gary Neville hasn’t held back when it came to Manchester United’s disappointing 3-1 loss against Aston Villa over the weekend.

United had been on a decent unbeaten run of nine matches prior to their defeat at Villa Park.

The result leaves Erik ten Hag’s side fifth in the Premier League table and three points behind Spurs above them.

Neville believes that their lack of firepower could have caught up with them.

The pundit told Sky Sports: “Manchester United’s front three, they are the weakest out of the top six.

“United’s front players aren’t as good as they should be. Ten Hag is getting the maximum out of them, I don’t know where the money’s gone again.”

So far this season Man Utd have only hit the back of the net 18 times in the Premier League.

Scoring an average of 1.38 goals per game, they are currently projected to score just 52 goals all season.

Ten Hag hasn’t had an easy ride when it comes to selecting his forward line each week.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s problems have been well documented and he was even given the captain’s armband over the weekend.

Neville also believes that Man Utd’s injury problems at the back have also caused them some problems.

He added: “They keep getting injuries to the pairing. You can’t keep a steady pair.

“Varane gets injured and Maguire came in last week and Lindelof is in midweek and today, so that’s a real problem.”

The result at the weekend means that United have now conceded 19 goals, which is more than any other top six side.

Ten Hag’s side also have a negative goal difference, which he will be more than keen on improving.

The Man Utd boss was less than impressed following the 3-1 defeat.

After the game he explained: “We lost the game at the start of first half and second half and that is not acceptable.

“They looked more fresh and more ready. We need to be more sharp. The result is really clear. It never lies. Today we were not good enough.

“We didn’t get the right organisation. We created chances and good chances at 2-1. But you are really disappointed to concede at the start of the second half.”

“It’s not acceptable that you concede a goal so quickly in the second half on the counter.

“Our players are experienced. You have to read the…
