Nation-Best 10 ACC Women’s Soccer Teams Selected to 2022 NCAA Championship


GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Headlined by a pair of No. 1 seeds, 10 Atlantic Coast Conference women’s soccer teams were selected to the 2022 NCAA Championship, announced Monday. The ACC’s 10 teams are the most of any league.
 
The ACC has placed a team in the Women’s College Cup in 39 of the past 40 NCAA Tournaments and in each of the past 17. Current ACC membership combines for 27 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championships.
 
After winning its second consecutive ACC Championship on Sunday, Florida State is the tournament’s overall No. 1 seed, while Notre Dame received one of the three other No. 1 seeds. North Carolina, which finished as the tournament runner-up on Sunday, joined Duke as No. 2 seeds. Virginia gained a No. 3 seed, while Pitt earned a No. 4 seed in its first-evet trip to the NCAA Tournament. Clemson received a No. 5 seed and NC State rounded out the first-round home matches by earning a No. 8 seed.
 
Virginia Tech and Wake Forest also earned berths and will play on the road in the first round.
 
The Seminoles (13-2-3), making their 23rd overall NCAA appearance after coming off their national title run a season ago, host FGCU (12-5-2) on Friday at 5 p.m.
 
The Fighting Irish (14-2-3) welcome Omaha (7-8-6) to South Bend in their first-round matchup on Saturday at 2 p.m. Notre Dame is appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the 28th time.
 
North Carolina (15-4-1), the only team that has appeared in all 41 NCAA Tournaments, hosts Old Dominion (9-8-3) on Saturday at 7 p.m., while the Blue Devils (12-4-3), who are making their 28th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, welcome Radford (12-3-4) on Friday at 6 p.m.
 
Virginia (13-3-3) is in the field for the 35th time and will take on Fairleigh Dickinson (8-10-3) in its first-round matchup. Friday’s kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
 
Pitt (12-4-3) will see it historical run to the NCAA Tournament continue Saturday when it hosts Buffalo (15-1-4) at 7 p.m.
 
Making its 23rd appearance, Clemson (8-4-5) will take on Vanderbilt (11-4-4) at home on Friday at 3 p.m., and NC State (7-7-5) will host UCF (9-2-5) for its 17th NCAA appearance. A date and time is to be determined.
 
Virginia Tech (10-6-2) hits the road to West Virginia (10-4-7) for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, and Wake Forest (9-6-3) travels to South Carolina (13-3-5) on Saturday at 6…
