Conte 'Disappointed' With Tottenham Fans Who Booed Spurs Players

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte says he was disappointed that home fans booed his side during Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool and called for patience.

Spurs fell 2-0 behind in the first half against the Reds at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a brace from Mohamed Salah.

Salah swooped on an inexplicable error by Eric Dier for Liverpool’s second, leaving Spurs fans booing the players after the first half.

“First of all I think that we have to show in every moment great respect for our fans because they are our fans, they pay the ticket,” Conte told reporters. “At the same time, if you ask me if I was a bit disappointed? Yes.

“Yes, because it is important in every moment, to be honest. I think I continue to repeat always the same situation from the start of the season and I say we have just started a process. I think after one year we made a lot of improvement.

“If someone thinks that we are already ready to win, I have to be honest with you and tell you it will be really, really, difficult. Because when you start and Liverpool is a good example, when you start a process, you need time and patience.

“If we understand this, time and patience, everybody is okay. Otherwise we can lose the passion and we can lose the enthusiasm.

“Then I repeat I don’t see another way for the way we are doing. For this reason I want to be really honest. I can’t promise in this moment to win trophies for our fans because in this moment we are far to do it.”

The result left Tottenham in fourth but eight points behind leaders Arsenal who have a game in hand. Liverpool moved up to eighth, snapping their two-game losing run.

“This is not the start or whatever, we are in a phase, we realised already and spoke about it, but for tonight we couldnt reach more than three points,” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told reporters. “We got them and thats massive.”
