Arsenal told to make one winter signing to avoid run-in ‘trouble’; defender ‘not ready’ to start for England

Arsenal told to sign striker

Arsenal have been told that they need to add to their squad in January if they want to keep pace with Manchester City in the Premier League.

The Gunners are sitting pretty at the top of the table after winning 11 of their first 13 league games of the 2022/23 campaign.

Man City remain firm favourites to win the title once again with Arsenal are unproven over a full 38-game season.

Pep Guardiola arguably has a stronger squad at his disposal than Mikel Arteta, so it would be an unbelievable achievement if Arsenal pip City to the title.

To give themselves a better chance, William Gallas thinks they need to add a new striker to their squad in January.

The Gunners signed Gabriel Jesus in the summer and he has made a great impact. This is even with him being short of goals of late as he has not netted in nine games.

Gallas thinks Arsenal “could be in trouble” if they do not make their squad stronger.

“If they want to win the Premier League they have to compete with Manchester City, so they need more players because there are so many competitions, playing every three days,” Gallas told Genting Casino.

“If Gabriel Jesus gets injured it will be hard for Arsenal to get the same performances so they definitely need one player in front and I still believe you need one player at the back.”

Ben White is another recent signing who is loving life under Arteta. The Englishman has been converted into a right-back this season and he has been performing brilliantly.

He will find out on Thursday if he is going to the World Cup. Gallas thinks he should go to the tournament even if he is not ready to start.

“It’d be good for Ben White to be in the final squad, but even if he is I don’t know if he will be in contention to start as a right-back because it’s not his position, even if he’s playing there for Arsenal,” Gallas added.

“But to play with your club, even if you play for the big clubs, it’s not the same when you play for the national team. It’s completely different.

“Sometimes people think, to be in the starting 11 for the club means you are ready to play for the national team, but sometimes you’re not. In France and other countries, there are examples too.

“I think White is ready to be in the squad, so I think he deserves to be in the national team. I don’t think Southgate will put Ben in because he is yet…
