COLUMBUS, Ohio – Devyn Etling has waited six years for a chance for a home win in the Big Ten Tournament and he made sure he and the Buckeyes earned one Friday. Etling scored in the 90th minute to lead the Buckeyes to a 1-0 regulation victory over Michigan State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in front of a crowd of 2,137.

Ohio State (10-2-5), the No. 3 seed in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament moved past the No. 6 Spartans (6-9-2) and will now face No. 2 Rutgers next Wednesday in the semifinals. The Buckeyes will travel to Piscataway to take on the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers and No. 7 Wisconsin were tied 0-0 after regulation and following two 10-minute overtime periods. The Scarlet Knights advances on penalty kicks, 5-4.

How it Happened

Ohio State had several opportunities in the first half but could not get one past the Michigan State keeper. The Buckeyes led 7-2 in shots and 3-0 in shots on goal.

The Buckeyes continued to pressure the Spartans in the second half but were not able to get anything to find the back of the net until Devyn Etling headed in the game winner with under a minute to play in regulation for the 1-0 win. Etling has scored the last three goals for the Buckeyes in this his sixth year with the program.

Parker Grinstead and Deylen Vellios assisted on Etling’s goal.

The Buckeyes finished with 16 shots with seven on goal while holding the Spartans for five shots and just two on net.

Ohio State keeper Keagan McLaughlin was again stellar between the pipes with two saves for his fifth shutout of the season.
