EUGENE, Ore. – Alice Barbieri fired a shot through traffic to score in the 82nd minute as Oregon rallied for a 2-2 draw on a wet and wild Friday night in front of 781 hearty fans at Papé Field.
The Ducks (4-8-7, 2-6-3) led early and then fell behind late before Barbieri found a touch of magic in a match that was not only played in a relentless rainstorm, but was delayed by 25 minutes after the stadium lights lost power just before kickoff.
“We kept fighting and fighting so it was nice to get something out of it,” said Oregon head coach Graeme Abel.
How it Happened: Senior Zoe Hasenauer, playing in her school-record 92nd and final game, opened the scoring with her first goal of the season in the 28th minute following a flurry of activity in front of the Beavers’ net.
Hasenauer started the sequence with a shot from the top of the box that was deflected out wide to Trinity Morales. Morales crossed the ball back into the box where Lexi Romero bodied the ball on frame. Romero’s shot bounced off an OSU defender to Hasenauer, who scored from five yards out.
“I think In a sense I definitely accomplished my personal goals but at the same time it’s bittersweet because obviously we didn’t have postseason happen for us but I think I feel really accomplished with what I did and what I was able to provide for the team and I am really happy about that,” said Hasenauer.
The lead didn’t last long as OSU (5-10-4, 1-8-2) scored on a corner kick in the 40th minute and the teams went into halftime tied 1-1.
The Ducks nearly took the lead in the 72nd minute when Hasenauer’s shot from distance struck the crossbar, only to watch the Beavers score 25 second later on a lightning-quick counterattack to take a 2-1 lead.
Oregon looked to have knotted the game on a Kess Elmore goal in the 82nd minute, but the play was nullified by an offside call.
The Ducks kept the pressure on and found the equalizer less than 60 seconds later. On the restart, the Ducks won the loose ball and Megan Rucker fired in a shot that was saved, but a poor clearance by OSU tipped the ball to Barbieri, who loaded up and sent a low scorcher from the top right corner of the box that found the back of the net to tie the game,…
