Tim Schels Named United Soccer Coaches College Player of the Week


CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina men’s soccer junior midfielder Tim Schels has been named the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s College Player of the Week, as announced by the organization for the week ending on Oct. 30.

Schels totaled four assists in two games, guiding UNC to a 3-0 win at William & Mary on Oct. 25 and a 2-2 draw with No. 18 Virginia on Oct. 28. The team captain’s four assists on the week set his new single-season career high and is now tied for first on the team leaderboard this season. 

His pair of assists against the Tribe was also the first multi-assist game for a UNC player since Sept. 6, 2019.

On the defensive end, Schels helped Carolina earn its seventh shutout of the year against the Tribe and kept the Cavaliers shotless during the opening half. The Erding, Germany native has appeared in every match so far this season. 

After posting a 1-0 win over Boston College in last night’s ACC Tournament First Round, the Tar Heels are back in action Sunday evening at 6 p.m. ET to in Syracuse, N.Y. to face the fourth-ranked Orange in the quarterfinals. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
